EYFFC: DAY-1 RESULTS
An intense first day of the tournament at Principina di Grosseto with most games proving tense and highly technical. Italy’s male U15 team, the defending European champion, debuted with double victory against Slovakia and Czechia. Czechia’s U17 team also won both games. Italy’s female U17 team took its first game against Austria, while Slovenia tops the female U15 standings.
The first day of the European Youth Flag Football Championships delivered a spectacular show for all the fans watching with hard-fought games and serious technical skills practically across the board. Italy’s male U15 team, the reigning European champion, got off to a great start by winning both of today’s games in front of a home crowd against Slovakia (59-0) and then Czechia (26-6) to go straight to the top of the standings. Czechia is currently on the top rung of the male U17 leader board having played two superb games against Austria (37-27) and then Italy (27-21).
The female games were just as thrilling with Slovenia leading the U15 rankings by beating Team Italy by 38 to 6 this morning and then delivering a repeat performance this afternoon against Austria (25 – 20). Italy triumphed in the first of the five U17 games by defeating the Austrians with a decisive 40-19 that speaks volumes about the potential and ambitions of the home team.
