I World MMA Awards 2023 sono andati in onda questa notte a Las Vegas, alla vigilia di UFC 296.
Ci sono state poche sorprese in questa quindicesima edizione dei World MMA Awards tenutasi, come sempre, a Las Vegas. A farla da padrona sono stati il campione dei pesi welter Leon Edwards e la campionessa dei pesi mosca Alexa Grasso.
Ricordiamo che i risultati presi in considerazione non riguardano tutto l’anno solare 2023, ma vanno precisamente dal primo luglio 2022 al 30 giugno 2023.
Chi è stato premiato ai World MMA Awards 2023?
Il fighter maschile dell’anno premiato ai World MMA Awards è stato il britannico Leon Edwards che ha battuto la concorrenza di Aljamain Sterling, Israel Adesanya, Islam Makhachev, e Sadibou Sy.
Il premio di combattente femminile dell’anno è andato alla messicana Alexa Grasso grazie alla conquista, e alla successiva difesa, del titolo flyweight contro Valentina Shevchenko.
Come incontro del 2023 è stato scelto il primo match disputato il 12 febbraio a UFC 284 fra il campione dei pesi leggeri UFC Islam Makhachev e l’attuale detentore del titolo featherweight Alexander Volkanovski.
Il KO, il comeback e il premio di ‘International Fighter of the year’ sono andati ancora una volta a Leon Edwards (che combatterà domani sera a UFC 296) per le due vittorie ottenute contro l’ex campione welterweight Kamaru Usman. Scelta come ‘Submission of the year’ la face crank di Alexa Grasso su Valentina Shevchenko a UFC 285 del 4 marzo 2023.
