Ryan Griffin è l’ospite di quest’oggi per la rubrica Man of the Week, a seguito del grande inizio di stagione per gli Skorpions Varese.
Ryan Griffin, Qb titolare degli Skorpions Varese, è forse il nome più altisonante della IFL 2024. Ex NFL, Griffin è anche stato vincitore del SuperBowl LV col ruolo di terzo Qb dietro solo a Tom Brady e Blaine Gabbert. Classe ’89, come da previsione è riuscito ad imporsi subito nel nostro campionato facendo passare dalle sue mani le prime tre vittorie degli Skorpions.
Dopo la passata stagione, con l’acquisto di Griffin gli Skorpions hanno subito messo in chiaro il loro ruolo nella nuova IFL e attualmente si trovano primi per 3-0.

Riportiamo in seguito la nostra intervista in italiano con Ryan Griffin.
TSOS: Ciao Ryan, grazie per averci dato il tuo tempo, iniziamo con le domande. Il tuo percorso nella NFL ti ha permesso di giocare con compagni illustri, tra cui Tom Brady, con il quale hai vinto il SuperBowl, puoi raccontarci qualcosa di quella esperienza?
Ryan Griffin: “Sono stato molto fortunato che la mia carriera nella NFL mi abbia dato l’opportunità di giocare con grandi quarterback come Drew Brees e Tom Brady. Penso che il tempo trascorso con loro sia stato inestimabile. Ho imparato tanto su come giocare nel ruolo di quarterback ma anche su come attaccare le difese.”
TSOS: A giudicare dalla tua prestazione, il tuo adattamento all’Italia è andato bene. Cosa ti piace dell’Italia e di Varese?
Ryan Griffin: “L’arrivo in Italia è stato fantastico. Io e mia moglie lo adoriamo. Tutti sono stati così gentili e accoglienti con noi. Non siamo qui da molto ma a Varese ci si sente decisamente come a casa.”
TSOS: Come consideri il campionato IFL?
Ryan Griffin: “Penso che sia un grande campionato con molti giocatori di grande talento. La cosa che preferisco è che i giocatori amano il football. Ti fa amare ancora di più questo sport.”
TSOS: Questo entusiasmante inizio di stagione può far sorgere una sola domanda: dove potrà andare Varese in questa IFL?
Ryan Griffin: “Penso che gli Skorpions abbiano la capacità di arrivare fino in fondo. Dobbiamo continuare a giocare un intelligente e duro se vogliamo arrivarci.”
TSOS: Nell’ultima partita la varietà dei ricevitori che hanno segnato ti ha permesso numerose scelte in fase offensiva, è questo il tuo più grande punto di forza?
Ryan Griffin: “Questo è sicuramente uno dei punti di forza del nostro attacco. Abbiamo molti giocatori offensivi molto bravi. Rende difficile per una squadra provare a fermarci poiché chiunque può prendere la palla in qualsiasi momento.”
TSOS: La prossima partita contro i Panthers è forse la più difficile sulla carta, quale sarà secondo te la chiave per sconfiggere il Parma?
Ryan Griffin: “Penso che quella di Parma sarà una partita molto impegnativa. Dobbiamo giocare in modo intelligente e duro per vincere.”

TSOS: Your path in the NFL allowed you to play with illustrious teammates, among them Tom Brady, with whom you won the SuperBowl, can you tell us something about that experience?
Ryan Griffin: “I was very fortunate that my NFL career allowed me the opportunity to play with great quarterbacks like Drew Brees and Tom Brady. I think my time with them was invaluable. I learned so much about playing quarterback but also how to attack defenses.”
TSOS: Judging by your performance, your adjustment to Italy went well. What do you like about Italy and Varese?
Ryan Griffin: “The transition to living in Italy has been fantastic. My wife and I love it. Everyone has been so nice and welcoming to us. We have not been here long but Varese definitely feels like home.”
TSOS: How do you consider the IFL?
Ryan Griffin: “I think it’s a great league with a lot of very talented players. My favorite thing about it is the players love football. It makes you love football even more.”
TSOS: This exciting start to the season can raise only one question: where can Varese go in this IFL?
Ryan Griffin: “I think the Skorpions have the ability to make it all the way. We have to continue to play smart and tough football if we want to get there.”
TSOS: During the last game the variety of receivers who scored allowed you numerous choices in the offensive phase, is this your greatest strength?
Ryan Griffin: “This is definitely a major strength of our offense. We have multiple very good offensive players. It makes it difficult for a team to try and stop since any body can get the ball at any time.”
TSOS: The next match against the Panthers is perhaps the most difficult on paper, what do you think will be the key to defeating Parma?
Ryan Griffin: “I think Parma will be a very challenging game. We have to play smart and tough in order to win.”
